Partner Profile: Mente
Mente was founded in 2017 by Mel Joseph, who, based on her personal experience of mental ill-health and work-related stress, trained extensively in the subject. She founded the business with the sole intention of changing the way businesses view and manage workplace mental health.
After two years of extensive research and development, the Mente platform was launched in 2019 and now supports employees and employers in the UK and overseas. It’s also now the approved partner for a wide variety of UK and international healthcare intermediaries.
Talking about how the business has progressed, Mel said: “In the early days while we talked about our desire to create mentally healthy workplaces using a well thought out strategy, a lot of businesses were still viewing free fruit Friday as a start point to managing employee wellbeing.
“Thankfully businesses have moved on significantly since then and we have certainly played our part in making that happen. Organisations of all shapes and sizes now recognise risk must be a consideration when it comes to managing mental health and employee wellbeing and the implications if they choose to ignore it.
“When we talk about risks in employee health we are talking about sickness absence, reputational damage, loss of talent and worse case legal implications to name but a few if they get it wrong.
“Our workplace programme is a whole company approach designed to support businesses with the key areas making everyone accountable and responsible for creating and maintaining a mentally healthy work space.
“While we know education plays a crucial part in any health and safety strategy we also know that a lot of businesses are data light when it comes to what is happening in realtime, more so while we have employees working from home or working in different countries.
“Our platform gives businesses that strategy with an entry point and real-time tracking to see what is going on every step of the way from education participation, risk assessment, in the moment employee feedback as well as the cost health is having on the business. It helps advocates change and shows the progress being made but it provides evidence of what you are doing which is a sure way to secure future investment for employee health provisions while satisfying employees and stakeholders.”
In addition to the platform, Mente has a team of specialist mental health experts who will work with businesses to ensure they get the right plan and support, making a real difference to the organisation and the employee.
For employers, the platform provides employer education, enabling companies to access a range of training and additional courses, including access to a resource centre containing information on mental health. It also includes risk assessment data and provides real-time analytics helping employers monitor employee mental health.
Paul Nugent, chief executive of the Santé Group said, “We decided that Nugent Santé should partner with Mente as it was a powerful platform that helped businesses tackle mental health issues through an innovative range of easily accessible health diagnostic tools. It’s really effective in helping companies deliver a happier and healthier workplace.”
